Scarsdale Historical Society Puts 937 Post Road Up for Sale Plus Home Sales

Two of Scarsdale's oldest buildings are for sale. The Scarsdale Historical Society is selling its 13-room farmhouse on .7 acres that dates back to the 1700 and 1800's. along with the Quaker Meeting House next door. The Historical Society has made the sale subject to a façade easement that will protect the east (Post Road) and south (Boulevard) facing façades of the farmhouse.

According to the listing, the buyer will have the option of subdividing the lot as long as the character of the new structure is in line with the old house.

The accessory building, known as the Quaker Meeting House is currently unheated, and includes 1,084 square feet of interior space with a wood roof on three levels. Both buildings are owned by the Scarsdale Historical Society and lie within the Scarsdale School District. The asking price is $895,000.

In an October, 2016 report from the historical society's President Randy Guggenheimer he reported that, "The cost of maintaining the Scarsdale Historical Society's buildings at 937 Post Road has far outstripped the benefits to the community of continuing to operate the Cudner-Hyatt House as a museum. The Cudner-Hyatt House cannot compete with other much more significant historic house museums, historic societies and libraries in our area. The Board of the Scarsdale Historical Society has concluded that the time has come to put the property up for sale."

The society will direct their efforts towards digitizing and preserving the history of Scarsdale, and cataloguing and making their historical documents accessible to the public for viewing.
