Local Agent Comments on the COVID Crisis and the Real Estate Market

How is the COVID-19 crisis hitting the real estate market in Scarsdale? We asked Elise Flagg from Associate Real Estate Broker at Houlihan Lawrence for some perspective and here is what she shared:

"This is new territory for all of us in the real estate market. We do have some activity at all price points.

Companywide at Houlihan Lawrence we have put on fewer listings this week than last week and our showings have come down as people are told to stay home and practice social distancing. That said there is still competitive bidding on houses under $1.5M and especially under the $1M mark.

While we do have buyer activity we have seen certain deals on hold as some buyers are taking a wait and see attitude. We also have seen other clients that want to get the process done quickly.

These buyers have watched the market and as a result we have seen houses come on the market and receive accepted offers immediately. Our city buyers tell us that the Coronavirus and the fact that everyone has been advised to stay home has made them realize that their family needs more space and they appreciate the parks and playgrounds in communities like Scarsdale.

Our Public Open Houses and Broker Open Houses have been put on hold indefinitely.

Some sellers are allowing showings by appointment only.

We do know as we talk to our buyers that whether in a few weeks or in a few months they are anxious to get back up here and continue the process of finding a home in our community."
