Application Filed to Demolish Hampton Road Tudor Plus Home Sales and Featured Listings

Three homes are the on the agenda for the meeting of the Committee for Historic Preservation on June 29, 2021. If approved, the homes will be demolished.

The addresses are:

-16 Stonehouse Road built in 1953
-41 Hampton Road built in 1930
-19 Ridgedale Road built in 1954

The real estate listing for the 4,82 square foot home at 41 Hampton Road says, “Breathtaking Tudor sits proudly on one of the prettiest, most coveted streets in Fox Meadow. Nestled on .69 acres this exquisite home boasts beautiful grounds, stone patios framed in brick and exquisite architectural details. Enter a richly paneled grand foyer leading directly out to beautiful stone patio and garden. Step down into a magnificent living room with high, carved plaster ceiling anchored by an elegant, limestone fireplace.”

Though the home did not receive an individual designation in Scarsdale’s Cultural Reconnaissance Study, it is sited within the Fox Meadow study area, which the report recommended for preservation. The name of the architect is unknown. The owner is developer Eilon Amidor.

It is next door to 39 Hampton Road. About that house, the survey says, “Three other houses designed by talented architects are of special interest. The quirky Tudor Revival house at 39 Hampton Road was designed in 1929 by New Rochelle-based architect Lorillard Wise, about whom almost nothing is known, despite the fact that he was responsible for several of the finest Tudor Revival houses in Scarsdale. For his Fox Meadow house, Wise employed a sequence of extremely steep gables articulated by straight, curved, and patterned timbers that appear to have been cut with an adz (Figure 7-4-19). The facade is further articulated by leaded casements in diamond and rectangular patterns with inset stained-glass panels."
