Grammy Award-Winning Organist Paul Jacobs to Perform at Hitchcock Church

Jacobs

Organist Paul Jacobs will perform at Hitchcock Presbyterian Church at 6 Greenacres Avenue at 4 pm on Sunday November 17.

An extraordinarily expressive performer and an intensely intelligent musician, Grammy Award-winning organist Paul Jacobs is helping the King of Instruments retake its rightful place in classical music. Described by The Chicago Tribune as "one of the most supremely gifted organists of his generation," he unites technical skills of the first order with probing emotional artistry. His performances have transfixed audiences, colleagues and critics alike. Prodigiously talented from his earliest years, at 15 Jacobs was appointed head organist of a parish of 3,500 in his hometown, Washington, Pennsylvania. He studied at the Curtis Institute of Music, double-majoring with John Weaver for the organ and Lionel Party for the harpsichord, and at Yale University with Thomas Murray. Jacobs made musical history at the age of 23 when he played J.S. Bach's complete organ works in an 18-hour marathon performance on the 250th anniversary of the composer's death. Professor Jacobs joined the faculty of The Juilliard School in 2003, and was named chairman of the organ department in 2004, one of the youngest faculty appointees in the school's history. He received Juilliard's prestigious William Schuman Scholar's Chair in 2007.

This concert will take place in the Sanctuary on the mighty Walker organ. It will last about one hour, is perfect for adults and children, and will include music by J. S. Bach, Mozart, Schumann, and Guilmant. There is a free reception after the concert to meet the artist and enjoy some fellowship time together. You will not want to miss this amazing performer for this very special occasion. Tickets are $10. Please reserve your tickets in advance by calling the church office at (914) 723-3311 as this event will sell-out. The doors open at 3:30 PM and the seating is open general seating.
