Scarsdale Varsity A Girls Soccer Players Honored at All Section Award Dinner.

allleagueOn Monday evening, November 13, three Scarsdale Varsity A girls soccer players were honored at the 2017 All Section awards dinner at Colonial Terrace in Cortlandt Manor, NY. The awards dinner occurs annually after the conclusion of the high school soccer season and recognizes the top high school female soccer players in Section 1, which consists of all high schools in Westchester, Rockland, Duchess and Putnam counties in New York State.

The 2017 Scarsdale Varsity A Soccer team was represented by sophomore forward Olivia Bryant, who was named All Section honorable mention; senior co-captain and mid-fielder Carly Rubin, who was named All Section; and junior mid-fielder Allison Stafford, who was named All Section for the second consecutive year. Stafford also received 2017 Player of the Year honors by a vote of the coaches in Conference 1 - League B, which consists of six high schools: Scarsdale, New Rochelle, Mamaroneck, White Plains, Ursuline and Mount Vernon. In describing Rubin's strong 2017 season, head coach Mindy Genovese stated: "She has incredible vision, is tough in the air and on the ground, is composed and a master at switching the point of attack." Regarding Stafford, Coach Genovese stated: "She is tenacious, competitive and intense, with a work ethic that is unmatched. She is a versatile player who makes a huge impact."

2017 was another successful season for Scarsdale's Girls Varsity A Soccer Team, with a 10-3-2 regular season record against a number of strong opponents. This was followed by a win in a shootout in the first round of the Section 1 playoffs against Mamaroneck and a difficult loss in a shootout against arch-rival New Rochelle in the second round. With a number of talented players expected to return in 2018, the team appears to be well positioned next year to contend for the Conference 1 - League B championship and to make an even deeper run in the Section 1 playoffs.
