Police Report: Fallen Tree Traps Golfer in Cart and a BMW Stolen from Richelieu Road Driveway

Stolen car: A 2019 BMW was reported as stolen from a Richelieu Road driveway overnight from June 27 to June 28.

Car break-in
On June 26, a Post Road resident reported his cell phone was stolen from his unlocked car parked at IHM Church on June 24.

Attempted burglary
An attempted burglary was discovered at a Cushman Road house July 2. The incident caused damage valued at $1,500.

Scam
A Saxon Woods Road man reported he received a text from an unknown party demanding Apple gift cards be sent to the unknown party so the unknown party would not post alleged photos of the man online. The man did not send the unknown party anything of value. Patrol advised the man that this was a scam and to cease all communication with the unknown party.

Domestic dispute
On June 28, police separated a man and a woman having a domestic dispute on the New Rochelle side of Weaver Street and waited for NRPD to arrive.

Welfare check
On June 27, police checked the welfare of a Lyons Road man. His car was not in the driveway; so it was assumed that he went out.

Death
A 97-year-old White Road woman died at home June 29.

Request
A Chesterfield Road man reported, on June 30, that he had received two unusual letters requesting money to start a business. One letter requested $10,000. One letter requested $100,000. The letters promised nothing in return, except the recipient’s gratitude.

Suspicious
On June 30, a Meadow Road resident reported suspicious behavior with people walking around her property. She said two individuals exited a vehicle, while a female driver remained inside the vehicle. After being confronted by the resident, the involved vehicle left the area. Patrol made contact with the female driver of the involved vehicle. She said that they had walked around the residence believing that the new owners had not moved in yet. She was very apologetic.

Civil matters
On June 29, a Nelson Road resident reported an incident with a contractor who received money for work in the fall and never returned to finish the job. Specifically, the resident said the contractor knocked on his door and solicited the work. The resident said he paid in full, $2,000.00, for repairs to be made to his driveway. He was present for the work and observed the contractor fill cracks in the driveway, but he said the contractor has not returned to smooth the surface and apply a coating. While on scene, patrol observed this condition. The resident said he recently contacted the contractor who promised to return later in the week.
The resident also said the contractor has not since returned any calls or messages. Police advised it was a civil matter.

On July 1, Richbell Road neighbors were arguing over the property line. Patrol suggested they reach out to the Scarsdale Building Department to get clarification on the location of the property line. Additionally, patrol suggested either erecting a fence or attempting to handle the matter in civil court if a mutual agreement could not be reached. In the meantime, patrol advised the involved parties to limit contact to avoid conflict.

Cars and roadways
A motorist ran out of gas at Post Road and Boulevard June 26. Police helped push the car into a parking lot and drove the motorist to a gas station to pick up a can of gasoline.
Police removed a fallen branch from Post Road June 27.
On June 27, a caller complained that a large shrub at the corner of Post and Kingston roads was obstructing a view of the roadways, making it dangerous for drivers. Police called the homeowner and advised trimming back the shrub.

Following a traffic stop for a broken tail light observed on Fenimore Road June 28, police issued the Valhalla driver summonses for a suspended registration, driving without valid insurance and unlicensed driving. The car was towed to the driver’s home, and license plates were removed.
On June 28, a Christie Place woman advised she might have been in an accident in the past but was unsure. She advised that her
Driver’s side mirror was damaged and "hanging" from a prior incident, however when she was arrived home, she observed the glass from the side mirror to be hanging and shattered. The woman could not confirm that she was in an accident or describe another vehicle that she may have collided with. Patrol inspected the side mirror and observed the plastic from the back of the mirror to be missing, which was from a previous incident. Patrol did not see signs of impact or damage from a collision with another vehicle. The woman was advised to contact her auto body shop for repairs.
On June 28, police noticed a parked car with its door ajar in a Mamaroneck Road parking area. Patrol contacted the owner who said he was on a nature walk and is currently positioned 20 minutes away from the location on foot. The owner stated that he is staying with his family who lives in Village. He requested police to close and lock his door.
Police notified Verizon about a loose wire on Secor Road June 29. Later, they taped up the wire.
A Cohawney Road woman reported finding an upholstery nail in one of her car’s tires June 29.
Police helped a woman find her parked car in Village center June 29.
A truck parked at Crossway field needed to be moved because of the fireworks display June 29. Patrol attempted to make contact with the vehicle owner with negative results. The highway foreman stated that it was ok for the car to remain but wanted to give the driver instructions on how to leave after the lights had been shut off. Patrol left a diagram on the windshield of the truck showing how to safely exit the field.
On June 30, police called a tow for a vehicle that broke down at Drake and Post roads.
On June 30, police removed a fallen wire from Palmer Avenue.
A driver with a flat tire on Heathcote Road was waiting for a parent to bring a spare. It was 2:21 a.m., July 2.

Animals
A loose dog on Sprague Road was reunited with its owner June 26.

On June 29, a caller reported losing her dog, a large poodle mix, at the fireworks display

On July 1, a coyote was reported on Greenacres Avenue.

On July 2, a large bobcat with a bunny in its mouth allegedly passed through a Harvest Drive back yard. Later the bobcat was allegedly seen on Rural Drive.

Village code
On June 28, police removed and discarded an illegally posted sign on Saxon Woods Road.

On July 1, police removed and discarded an illegally posted sign on Brite Avenue. The owner was issued a summons.

Lost and found
On June 29, a department of public works employee found a cell phone on Mamaroneck Road. The owner’s brother-in-law arrived at headquarters to pick up the phone. Police contacted the owner who described the contents of the case, and police released the phone to the brother-in-law.

A passerby found a wallet at the Scarsdale pool and gave it to police who vouchered it for safekeeping June 29.
A Lenox Place woman reported losing her Uruguay passport at home or at her child’s school June 30.

Firefighters
On June 30, firefighters were called because of a strong chlorine-like odor in a Lincoln Road house, with a resident requesting EMS evaluation. The resident explained they were performing maintenance to a back-up battery to a sump pump when they accidentally mixed a bleach solution with the contents of a lead acid battery. This mixture produced a strong odor of chlorine inside the structure and at that point the resident called for FD assistance. The residents were checked by SVAC and refused additional treatment. Firefighters removed the battery from the structure and used an electric fan for ventilation until the odor dissipated.

Firefighters consulted with the Westchester Chief of Special Operations via phone to see about any special considerations that would be required from mixing these two chemicals. Firefighters instructed the resident to dispose of the battery at the Household Material Recovery Facility in Valhalla.

On June 28 and June 30, firefighters helped Con Edison check Gorham Road houses after gas was found at two sewer manholes in the street. Con Edison was ventilating the manholes and addressing the leak. No gas was found in any of the houses that had been checked.

Firefighters assisted with a car accident on Weaver Street June 29.

On July 1, firefighters were dispatched to Morris Lane for smoke detector activation. Upon arrival, crews noted an odor of burnt food. The occupant stated that a beef patty was being microwaved, and the microwave oven "blew up." The occupant noted the food burning and “threw the food out the window.” Negative extension of any fire was confirmed with thermal imaging cameras. No obvious damage to microwave oven was seen. Passive ventilation was utilized to clear residual smoke.

Firefighters assisted with a motorcycle accident on the Bronx River Parkway July 1.

On July 1, firefighters were dispatched to Saxon Woods Road for wires burning with a tree on fire. The nearest structural exposure was 50 feet away. Primary wires were confirmed to be arcing in contact with the tree. Con Edison was notified. One hose line was stretched to extinguish the base of the tree and the neighboring brush fire. A Con Edison technician sleeved multiple primary wires in contact with the tree. The tree and brush fires were extinguished, and the scene was turned over to Con Edison.

On July 1, a tree fell on a golf cart, trapping a golfer, at Hole 15 at Saxon Woods Golf Course July 1. Upon arrival, crews confirmed large tree was on the vehicle, and the vehicle’s roof was compressed down on the golfer. He was complaining of neck and back pain. Westchester County police assisted in providing spine immobilization, while firefighters used chain saws to cut tree limbs and Hurst cutters to remove the vehicle roof and extricate the golfer. The golfer was taken to the hospital by SVAC.

Firefighters assisted Hartsdale firefighters with a structure fire in their jurisdiction July 1.

On July 2, firefighters ventilated a Stratton Road house and stood by for Con Edison after elevated carbon monoxide levels were registered in the house. Later the readings were determined to be false alarms.
