An Arrest, Trees Removed and Doorbell Ringers from the Scarsdale Police

Arrest: On Jan. 4, following a traffic stop on Boulevard, police arrested Malik Nasario, 27, of Bridgeport, Connecticut, on charges of aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, failure to stop at a stop sign, driving without a license, an uninspected motor vehicle and an equipment violation. Nasario was released on his own recognizance with an appearance ticket for Scarsdale Village Justice Court on Jan. 24.

Identity theft
On Jan. 5, a Brite Avenue resident reported someone opened a fraudulent account with AT&T and set up six phone lines, accumulating charges of $8,266.67.

Harassment
A Clarence Road woman reported she was receiving unwanted messages from someone Jan. 1. Police advised her to inform the person to that she, as well as her family members, no longer wished to be contacted.

On Jan. 4, a Bradford Road man reported receiving threatening letters from a known individual.

On Jan. 4, a Brite Avenue man advised he no longer wished to be contacted by an ex-girlfriend. Police spoke with the parties and advised them to no longer contact each other.

Suspicious
A man came to a Fairview Court house and told the homeowner, via a doorbell camera, that he was there to do an exterior inspection Jan. 2. The resident advised that no work was scheduled for the day. The man then got into a white pickup truck and left.

An Archer Lane resident found a paper copy of a credit card in front of her house and was concerned Jan. 3. Using name information, police linked the copy to the owner of the original credit card, who lived on Stratton Road, and returned the copy to that owner’s house.

A caller reported a man walking on East Parkway with a garbage bag on his head Jan. 4. Police canvassed the area but could not find the man.

On Jan. 4, a Seneca Road resident advised seeing a white pickup in his driveway while he was away. He observed the truck leave the scene.

The adult child of an elderly Penn Road woman reported someone had been repeatedly ringing the woman’s doorbell earlier that day, on Jan. 5.
An East Parkway apartment resident advised he heard a noise near his front door and observed the door to be partially open Jan. 6. The door had not been locked, he said. Police advised him to always lock his doors.

East Parkway bank tellers advised that an unknown client had issues with bank policies and was giving the tellers a hard time Jan. 3. The client left the bank before police arrived.

A Garth Road pizzeria owner reported two girls were fighting in his store Jan. 4. They left the store and were not found when police, from Scarsdale and Eastchester, canvassed the area for them.

The manager of Starbucks reported a person banned from the store due to unruly behavior trespassed on the property Jan. 6.

Cars and roadways
On Jan. 1, police advised Verizon of a fallen wire on Dell Road.
Police called a tow for a disabled car on Olmsted Road Jan. 2.
Police helped a Post Road driver start a stalled car Jan. 3.
Police notified the highway department about boxes littering Post Road Jan. 3.
A tractor-trailer got stuck on Cooper Road and blocked the roadway Jan. 3. Police assisted in removing the vehicle.
While conducting traffic enforcement on Depot Place and Popham Road, patrol observed a driver make an illegal U-turn. A traffic stop was initiated on Popham Road. A DMV check showed that the driver's license and the registration for the vehicle were suspended. The license was suspended two times, and the registration was suspended for parking violations. The vehicle had no insurance code on file, and it had an expired inspection. Summonses were issued; the license plates were removed; and the car was towed to the impound lot.
A motor scooter without license plates was reportedly parked in a Scarsdale Avenue parking lot Jan. 4. It was towed to the impound lot for safekeeping.
On Jan. 5, using a phone number left on a post-accident note left on a windshield, police were able to connect the owner of a damaged car with the driver of the car that struck it on Heathcote Road.
Police assisted several cars maneuver on snow-covered and icy roadways during the storm on Jan. 6.
Police called a tow for a car that hit the curb on Mamaroneck Road and sustained two flat tires Jan. 6.
Highway workers removed fallen trees and branches from Village roadways during the storm Jan. 6. Utility companies were notified about fallen wires.
A tree fell on a Cambridge Road house and damaged the roof Jan. 7.
Three car accidents were officially reported in the Village this week.

Civil matters
On Jan. 4, a man reported a previous car /electric bicycle accident that occurred at Mamaroneck and Post roads Jan. Dec. 27. At the time, both drivers exchanged information and privately agreed to handle the matter. The man said he sent an estimate to repair damages to the father of the other driver. The father then allegedly refused to pay and left threatening voicemails. Police contacted the father and determined no threatening voicemails had been sent. The father said he would speak with the man about the matter again. Police advised the parties to contact their insurance companies or pursue the matter in civil court if they could not reach an agreement.

On Jan. 4, a Herkimer Road resident reported that his neighbor’s landscaper cut down multiple trees on the resident’s property. It occurred while the resident was not home on Jan. 28.

Lost and found
A person walked into headquarters on Jan. 2 and reported losing a parking permit.

Firefighters
On Jan. 1, firefighters stood by for Con Edison at the site of a gas leak on Murray Hill Road.

On Jan. 1, firefighters shut down a Ferncliff Road stove with a gas leak and stood by for Con Edison.

On Jan. 2, firefighters assisted at a car accident on Grand Park and Griffen avenues. Upon arrival firefighters found an accident between a flatbed tow truck and a sedan, with the sedan’s operator unable to exit the vehicle. Firefighters were able to pry the driver’s door open to allow the operator to exit the vehicle. Scarsdale Volunteer Ambulance Corps attended to the patient while firefighters stabilized the incident. There was minor damage to the tow truck, and the sedan was removed by tow. SVAC transported one patient to White Plains Hospital Center.

A reported “chemical odor” on the third floor of a Post Road building was traced to perishable food in a lunch box Jan. 4.

The elevator shaft was smoking at the Alternative School on Post Road Jan. 5. Firefighters helped custodians shut down the elevator and ventilate the space. The fan motor was defective and found to be arcing.

Firefighters helped a Foxhall Place resident change smoke detector batteries Jan. 5.

Firefighters helped an Edgewood resident with mobility issued get from his house to a car Jan. 5.

On Jan. 5, firefighters assisted at a car accident on the Hutchinson River Parkway.
Firefighters advised a Clarence Road resident to inspect and clean their chimney after embers were observed to be coming out of the chimney with the chimney smoke Jan. 5.

Firefighters ventilated a Fenimore Road house and stood by for Con Edison after carbon monoxide was detected Jan. 5.

On Jan. 5, firefighters stood by for Con Edison at the site of a gas leak in a Shawnee Road house.

On Jan. 6, firefighters opened a Dunham Road fireplace flue to alleviate a smoke condition inside the house.

On Jan. 6, firefighters assisted at a car accident on Franklin Road.

On Jan. 6, firefighters assisted at a car accident on the Hutchinson River Parkway.
