Burglary and Theft, A Feuding Couple, Mischief and Storm-Related Incidents Keep Police Busy

The fire department searched for a gas leak on Greenacres Avenue on August 11, 2024.Burglary and theft: On Aug. 5, a Tompkins Road man reported his house had been burglarized.
A Garden Road resident reported stolen property Aug. 6.

Property was stolen from a Ridgecrest East driveway Aug. 8.

Identity theft
On Aug. 9, a Crossway woman reported an incident of identity theft.
On Aug. 9, a Harwood Court business owner reported that his company mailed a check on July 25. They were notified on Aug. 1 that the check did not clear because an unknown person attempted to “wash” the check and cash it in North Carolina by altering the amount and payee information.

Domestic matters
Police mediated a dispute involving an Edgewood couple Aug. 7. They agreed to stay away from each other for the night,
On Aug. 8, the Edgewood woman reported her husband threw out her food and mail. The husband explained he threw out spoiled food and said he did not touch his wife’s mail. He left the house to run errands, and police explained the situation to the wife. Later, the Edgewood man reported his wife was “out of control” and throwing out good food because she was still mad about her spoiled food being thrown out. Police mediated the situation and explained why the food had been thrown out.
On Aug. 8., the Edgewood man reported his wife was screaming at him and pounding on his door, which prevented him from getting his work done. She had already gone to bed for a nap when police arrived. The man said he would go to the library to continue working.
A Fox Meadow couple reported a dispute with the 17-year-old son who left the house after the dispute Aug. 11. The couple said they were in the process of moving and asked their son to get off his phone to help. When police arrived, they were informed that the son simply went for a walk.

Mischief
Multiple callers reported blonde kids on bikes causing trouble and throwing rocks at businesses on Wilmot Road Aug. 5. Police arrived on scene, and the youths admitted to throwing rocks which caused significant damage to the rear door of the business. The business did not want to press charges but asked that the kids’ parents be notified. Police called the parents, who responded to the scene to pick up their kids.

Welfare check
Police checked on a 16-year-old boy who allegedly had a breakdown in another jurisdiction Aug. 6. Police confirmed the boy safely arrived home and was with his parents.

Suspicious
Someone rang a Saxon Woods Road doorbell and left Aug. 7 around 11:30 p.m.

A woman reported a self -driving car was following her Roosevelt Place Aug. 9. Police investigates and saw self-automated lawn mowers in use at the location. They were not following people, just maintaining the yard.

Police checked on a Fayette Road house after the resident received what he believed to be a scam call from someone alleging to be from Con Edison Aug. 10.

Help
A Hamilton Road resident reported her recycling bin had been stolen Aug. 6. Police located the bin down the street, displaced by a storm.

Police helped an elderly woman who said she was lost and looking for a hotel for the night Aug. 9. Police advised about several hotels in White Plains and helped the woman use her mobile GPS device Aug. 9.

Cars and roadways
A woman sleeping in her car told police she was waiting for her cleaning crew to finish working at a nearby address on Fox Meadow Road Aug. 6.
A car with scofflaw status for unpaid parking tickets was found on East Parkway Aug. 8.
A disabled car was reported on Overhill Road Aug. 8.
Patrol put up a temporary stop sign to control traffic around burning wires against a utility pole on Post Road Aug. 8.
Highway workers removed fallen trees from Crane, Post, Brookby and Fox Meadow roads and Ridgecrest East and fallen branches from Richbell Road and Sherbrooke Road Aug. 9.
Police notified Verizon about unrelated fallen wires on Hampton Road, Ridgecrest East and Rectory Lane Aug. 9.
A tree branch fell on a minivan at Weaver and Cornell streets Aug. 9. No injuries were reported.
Trees fell on parked cars on Harwood Court and East Parkway Aug. 9.
Police reported sparking wires on Drake Road to Con Edison Aug. 9.
A utility pole snapped on Rectory Lane Aug. 9, taking down a transformer and wires. Firefighters and police assisted in roadway cleanup and stood by for Con Edison.
Police stood by for Con Edison at the site for a tree branch on wires over Tunstall Road Aug. 10.
Police informed Verizon about a fallen wire on Heathcote Road Aug. 10.

Animals
On Aug. 8, a caller reported her dog was attacked by a pit bull and bitten at Barry and Tunstall roads. Both dogs allegedly “took off” after the bite. The pit bull was wearing purple collar and was off leash. It allegedly attacked the caller’s dog while she was walking it on leash before it broke free during the attack. Police looked for both dogs but did not find them. Patrol later went to the suspected address of the offending pit bull. She admitted her dog got out off leash. She heard about the attack but did not see it. She provided vaccination records. Police issued a summons for having a dog off leash.
A turtle reported on Popham Road Aug. 10 left the scene before police arrived.

Lost and found
A passerby found a key fob on East Parkway and gave it to police Aug. 5.
An Edgewood Road man reported losing his Mexican passport at home Aug. 8.

Village code
Police advised a Jefferson Road resident to trim grass away from a fire hydrant on his property Aug. 11.
After neighbors complained of noise, a Varian Lane resident lowered the volume of music.

Firefighters
On Aug. 7, firefighters were dispatched to a Shawnee Road residence for a reported water condition in the basement. Upon arrival, crews were approached by the resident who stated that the basement was filling with water. Upon investigation, crews noted approximately 2inches of water accumulated in the basement, with pressurized water free flowing from the water service connection. Firefighters attempted to locate the main valve; however, the valve prior to the meter was completely dislodged and hanging from a grounding wire Members assisted the water department with a curb valve shut down, while simultaneously initiating pump-out operations. Water flow controlled and a submersible pump and squeegees were used to mitigate the accumulated water. A power adapter was removed from its power source after a popping sound was heard. Water accumulation did not rise to the level of electrical receptacles. Firefighters advised the resident to have a receptacle in the utility closet evaluated for water exposure due to its proximity to spraying water. No tripped breakers were noted. Members placed a dehumidifier and split A/C unit into operation to assist with residual water removal. Advised the resident to contact a salvage company for further remediation.

Firefighters shut down a malfunctioning dryer with electrical arcing and a scorched smell in a Shawnee Road house Aug. 7.

A Franklin Road woman got locked inside her bathroom due to a faulty door latch Aug. 7. Firefighters helped open the door to release her.

Firefighters helped a driver get out of her car after it rolled down an embankment and fell into two feet of water, causing significant damage and airbag deployment on the Hutchinson River Parkway Aug. 8.
Firefighters stood by for Con Edison at the site of arcing wires on Rectory Lane and a fallen power line on School Lane, a fallen tree into wires on Rectory Lane, and fallen Carstensen Road wires, Aug. 9.

On Aug. 9, firefighters helped a police officer get into a patrol car after the keys were accidentally locked inside on Carstensen Road during a public safety storm-related incident.

Firefighters assisted Con Edison with a gas leak investigation on Brown Road Aug. 9.

Generators placed too close to a Greendale Road house, a Farley Road house and a Garden Road house caused carbon monoxide incidents Aug. 9. Firefighters assisted Con Edison and provided ventilation. The generator being used on Farley Road was red-tagged and put out of service due to it producing unusually high levels of CO gas.

Firefighters assisted Con Edison with a gas leak investigation on Greenacres Avenue Aug. 11.
