Gas Station Robbery, Car Thefts and More from the Police

Gas Station Robbery: A man who made off with $879 from the cash register of the Lukoil gas station was captured after police identified him on a video tape. The theft occurred on Thursday July 25 at 9:30am at the Lukoil gas station located on Tarrytown Road. The suspect, who was a frequent customer at the station, stole $879 and food from behind the register of the station while the station owner was outside pumping gas.

On Monday July 29, the Greenburgh Police Detective Division identified and located the suspect, Steven Randall, age 31 of Tarryhill Way White Plains. He was charged with Petit Larceny, a misdemeanor, and was released without bail. He is due back in Greenburgh Town Court on August 2, 2013.

Power Outage: A Rodney Road resident heard and explosion at 9 pm on July 26 and then lost power to her home. Police looked for a smoking transformer but found none. However, most of the people on the block were without power so Con Edison was notified.

Pool Crashers: A Hutchinson Avenue woman called police at 1 am on July 27 when she spotted her neighbors using her pool. By the time police arrived, the mother of one of the swimmers had come by and apologized for her child's behavior.

Struck by a Golf Ball: A golfer was hit in the head by a golf ball at Saxon Woods Golf Court at 5:15 pm on July 27. The man was taken to White Plains Hospital.

Gold Coins: A Windsor Lane man reported that gold coins, including a 1 oz. gold eagle coin, valued at $53,000, had been stolen from his home, sometime between July 4 and September 20, 2012.

No Fare: The driver of a NYC cab called police at 12:30 am on July 28 when a passenger bolted out of the cab without paying the fare of $140 for travel and "vehicle cleaning." Police found the man in his home. He apologized and said he ran because he was embarrassed that he did not have the money. He said he came back out with the fare but could not locate the cab. He agreed to pay the driver and the issue was resolved.

Road Hazards: Doreen MacDonald of White Plains was driving on the Post Road near Murray Hill Road on the morning of 7/22 when she struck a drain cover and damaged the right front tire of her car. Since the car was damaged by Village property she asked that the Village assist her in changing the tire. Police called Sal's Auto Road Service and they changed the woman's tire.

On the evening of July 22, a Spier Road woman was driving her Ford Expedition south on Palmer Avenue. She attempted to pull over onto the shoulder and got stuck in a drain culvert. The asphalt culver sunk 3 feet into the ground and her jeep was stuck in the drainage hole. RJT Towing was called and pulled the car out. The car had only minor damage and the owner was able to drive it away.

Graffiti: Nine Village-owned street signs along Drake Road were spray painted black with the initials "DCC." The painted signs were reported on the morning of July 23 and police do not know when the vandalism occurred.

Car Thefts: Nancy Simon of White Plains was playing tennis at the Scarsdale Tennis Courts at Crossway on the afternoon of July 23 when her car was vandalized. When she returned to the car at 5 pm the front passenger window was broken and her handbag was missing. The purse contained cash, credit cards, and identification cards. A rental car that was in use by her tennis partner was also vandalized. The front passenger window was broken in what appeared to be an attempted break-in.

On Wayside Lane, another car was vandalized overnight on 7/26 – 7/27. A home attendant parked her car in the parking lot next to the high school tennis courts and when she returned on the morning of 7/27 she found the driver's side glass door broken and a missing GPS. The car was tossed but the GPS was the only missing item.

On Wynmor Road, a 2004 Volkswagon was entered overnight on 7/26 – 7/27. The car may have been left unlocked. The following morning the owner found the car in disarray and reported that $20 was missing. A small green outdoor table was also missing from the woman's backyard.

Harassed: After violating an order of protection, Daniel Witoslawski was back in Village court on the morning of July 24. Despite an order barring him from contacting an Edgewood girl, Witoslawski placed three collect phone calls from the Westchester County Jail to her house on July 13. As a consequence, he was returned to Village Court and his bail was raised from $3,500 to $5,00o. After the proceedings he was returned to jail pending an August 7 court date.

Arrest: Adolfo V. Lopez-Faria surrendered himself to Scarsdale Police in response to an outstanding warrant. He had failed to appear in court on 6/28 to handle driving violations. He was processed and released on $100 bail and ordered to appear on 7/31.

Identity Thefts: On 7/24 an Evon Court woman reported that someone used her personal information to open a fraudulent bank account at Chase and to change the routing of her Social Security check to be deposited into the fraudulent account. She contacted the Social Security office who verified that her June check had been deposited into the fraudulent account but said they could forward her the funds. The bank began an investigation.

An Aspen Road woman helped Romanian scammers gain access to her Chase Bank account and to remove $8,000 in funds. The woman received an email that appeared to be from Chase at 4 am on July 12. It instructed her to update her personal information by downloading an attachment. The woman completed the attachment and provided her personal information. When she tried to go into her account she got a screen written in Romanian advising her that her account was suspended for breach of contract or non-payment. She then contacted Chase and discovered she was the victim of a scam.

A wallet belonging to an Armonk man was found on Scarsdale Avenue on the afternoon of July 26 and brought to police. The wallet contained $377 in cash, a driver's license and a debit card.

Stolen Bikes: A Paddington Road woman parked her Trek bike at a bike rack outside DeCiccos on the morning of July 27. She did not lock it. When she returned an hour later, the bike, valued at $500 was missing.

A Ross Mountain Bike and a helmet, valued at $100, were stolen from the bike rack on Depot Place sometime during the day of 7/26. The bike had been secured to the rack with a cable bike lock which was also gone.

Water Leak: The Water Department responded to a report of water coming out of the garage at a home at 1157 Post Road on the morning of 7/22. A neighbor was able to give the men the access code to the garage and they entered the house where they found a broken valve in the first floor bathroom. They shut off the water supply and also decided to shut off the power as the water was running over a lighting fixture in the garage.

Animals:

A Putnam Road woman who was walking her dog on Olmstead Road on the morning of July 28 reported that another dog came off a property on Olmstead Road and bit her dog twice. She wanted to confirm that the dog was up to date on its shots. Police spoke to the owner of the dog and found that it did have its shots. The owner apologized and said she would have her electric fence fixed.

Dead duck: A Fox Meadow resident called police to say that a motorist had run over a duck on Fox Meadow Road at 7 pm on July 28. The homeowner asked police to monitor speeding drivers and then put the duck in a box to be picked up by sanitation.

Two shitzu dogs were found at a home on Walworth Avenue. Police took the dogs to headquarters and contacted the dogs' owner who came to retrieve them. The man was issued an appearance ticket.

A baby deer was hit by a car on Griffen Road at 5:35 pm on July 26. The witness said that the deer was able to get up and entered the woods.

Disputes: A man who was moving out of a home on Brite Avenue requested police assistance as he removed his possessions at 11:30 am on July 25.

A Con Edison supervisor called police on the morning of July 26 when a resident on Fox Meadow Road would not permit Con Edison to check a gas valve on their lawn. Police spoke to the homeowner who agreed to have it checked and asked to be notified beforehand if work needs to be done in the future.

Solicitors: On July 26 a Brewster Road woman complained that someone continues to leave fliers on her property. She showed police a menu from Michael's Pizza and Pasta that had been left on her door handle. Police issued a summons to the restaurant for soliciting without a permit. Police also received a complaint about representatives from NYPIRG who were soliciting in Quaker Ridge. A resident complained that the NYPRIG solicitor continually rang the bell, even after they were told that no one was interested.
