On June 24, 2010, Stormjames Scudder Lipton, a member of Scarsdale Troop 4 earned the rank of Eagle Scout and was honored at the Eagle Court of Honor at Hitchcock Church on Sunday, October 24, 2010.
Storm is a bright, articulate, hard-working, compassionate and curious young man with a great sense of humor. He is dedicated to the concept of service to others, and this dedication can be observed in his interests and hobbies.
For his Eagle Service Project Storm organized a Bike Safety Rodeo. In conjunction with Bike New York, the Theodore D. Young Community Center, the Greenburgh Police Child Safety Unit, the Greenburgh Explorers, the Lois Bronz Family Daycare Center and the Girl Scouts, Storm and his fellow troop members taught bike safety, performed bike inspections, distributed bike helmets, taught individuals how to properly wear bike helmets and taught kids how to ride a bike.
At the age of twelve Storm was inducted into the Westchester Putnam Boy Scout of America Order of the Arrow (OA). The Order of the Arrow is the national honor society of the Boy Scouts where he has participated in food collection for Food PATCH and building restoration for Habitat for Humanity, as well as other service projects.
For the past five years, Storm was a student at the Windward School. During his time at Windward Storm was a member of the student government, the weather club, the basketball team and the lacrosse team. He is currently a sophomore at Soundview Preparatory School in Yorktown Heights where he is a member of the outdoor club. Members of the outdoor club assist in the management and upkeep of the outdoor property at Soundview.
Storm is a member of Hitchcock Presbyterian Church. As a member of the church he has participated in the youth choir, the handbell choir, Youth Forum, and currently the Senior High youth group. Most dear to his heart at Hitchcock is Midnight Run. He has been participating in their monthly Midnight Run since the age of ten, serving food, distributing toiletries and clothing and having a conversation or two with our homeless friends on the street.
Storm has been a competitive swimmer since age four, swimming for the Theodore D. Young Community Center’s F.A.S.T. Swim Team, the Town of Greenburgh’s summer team and currently for the Empire Swim Team. Since he was eleven years old, Stormjames has swam in the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s Hudson River Swim for Life,a 3.2 mile swim across the Hudson River, to raise money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. In total, he has raised $13,000 for the cause.
