Willy Wonka, Jr. is a Hit at Heathcote

wonka4Heathcote Elementary School students discovered the Golden Age of Chocolate as they prepared for their production of Willa Wonka, Jr. on Saturday February 11th. First and second graders performed in the chorus, while third through fifth graders shared the various leading roles in the play. The process started with auditions, one month before the beginning of rehearsals. During the two-week rehearsal period the cast learned about the importance of teamwork, cooperation, hard work, and dedication. While working together on the play, kids formed theatre friendships and worked together to produce a great performance.

About the Play: The show opens with the Candy Man in a world of pure imagination where even the dishes can be eaten. He announces the Willy Wonka search for five golden tickets that have been hidden in Wonka's chocolate bars! As the worldwide contest unfolds we meet Charlie and his grandparents at the Bucket Shack who “Think Positive.” Charlie's world is grim, but he is happy and thoughtful, unlike the other golden ticket winners, Augustus Gloop the non-stop eater, Veruca Salt, the spoiled brat, Voilet, the gum chewer, and Mike Teevee, the non stop TV watcher! One by one, it is revealed that with the exception of Charlie, the kids are all bad eggs. Finally, the audience learns the real meaning of the Wonka contest; while the losers receive a lifetime supply of chocolate, Charlie wins the ultimate price, the Chocolate Factory!
