More Openings and Closings

Scarsdale Village is slowly coming back to life with the news of two new retailers opening downtown. Value Electronics has opened on Popham Road where electronics expert Robert Zohn can help you create a home theatre, install a sound system, network your house and even install LED lighting. They are located at 35 Popham Road and their phone number is 914-723-3344.

Harwood Court will soon be home to a new blow dry bar, where blow dries will be available for as little as $30. With a branch in Rye and a recently opened salon in Greenwich, Scarsdale will be Plush Blow's third location. Plush Blow offers "no cuts, no color, just blow dries" in six styles …Plush Blow, the Skinny, Va Va Voom, As Say and Pin-up. Watch for their opening and check them out here:

On Central Park Avenue in Scarsdale, Ben’s Deli Restaurant is slated to open where Spiga once served pasta. Ben’s serves kosher deli fare and operates six restaurants in Manhattan, Bayside, Carle Place, Greenvale, Woodbury and Boca Raton. On their extensive menu are overstuffed sandwiches filled with corn beef, pastrami and brisket, plus matzoh ball soup, stuffed cabbage and many dishes your grandma used to cook. Plans are still in the works and according to the corporate office they will probably open “9 months from now.”

Farther afield: We wondered what would become of the Sports Authority in White Plains when retail giant Dick's Sporting Goods moved to Maple Avenue, taking over the former site of Fortunoff. It didn’t seem likely that two mega stores offering identical merchandise could thrive on the same block. We recently learned we were right. The Sports Authority is soon to move to Route 119 to the vacant Syms store next to Bed and Bath. We’re happy that these two chains figured out how both could stay in business.

And at the Crossroads Shopping Center on Tarrytown Road in Elmsford-- yet another bookstore has closed. Barnes and Noble will be replaced by Party City which is now under construction and plans to open in December, 2012.
