Mail fraud: On Aug. 26, mailbox slots on East Parkway were found to be covered with a sticky substance, commonly used by thieves to pull mail out of mailboxes in checking washing scams. Police notified the postal police and post office employees, so the mailbox could be inspected and cleaned.
Attempted shoplifting
On Aug. 29, police were called to investigate a group of individuals who allegedly attempted to steal items from a Scarsdale Avenue store at 2 a.m. An employee said they were trying to leave in a black car.
Identity theft
On Aug. 26, a Cornell Road resident reported receiving a bill for $500 from an unrecognized hotel and casino. He called to dispute the bill.
On Aug. 31. A Post Road resident reported an unknown person took out a Montgomery Ward credit card in his name. He needed a police report to close the account.
Scam
On Aug. 27, a Reimer Road man reported investing a large sum of money with a Crypto agent. Upon a request to withdrawal, the agent said the man needed to cover taxes and a commission before the money could be released. After further investigation into the agent, the man learned the agent had been flagged for deceptive involvement in Crypto activity. Police advised the man to report the matter to the FBI.
A Brite Avenue resident reported receiving a phishing email Sept. 1. Police advised to ignore and delete it.
Criminal mischief
Someone damaged a parking meter on Chase Road Aug. 31.
Dispute
On Aug. 26, police mediated a dispute between two Post Road housemates. They agreed to stay away from each other for the night.
Suspicious
An Overlook Road woman reported that a man claiming to work for Optimum rang her doorbell requesting access to look at wires. Since she did not have an appointment, she did not let him in and he left. She wondered if it was a scam because he was not wearing a uniform and since he arrived unannounced.
A caller reported seeing men standing near the “take it or leave it” shed at the sanitation department Aug. 31. They were allegedly asking strangers for alcohol. Policed arrived and saw sanitation employees near the shed. They were unaware of people asking for alcohol.
Help
A 107-year-old Garden Road woman requested help with her hearing aids and also said she was having a computer problem Aug. 26. Police called the woman’s daughter who said she would take her mother to the doctor to get the hearing aids adjusted.
A contractor doing excavation work on Cambridge Road reported hitting a water or sewer line Aug. 31. The water department was informed for follow-up.
Cars and roadways
On Aug. 27, a utility pole snapped on Fox Meadow Road, causing live wires to fall to the street. The road was closed, and Con Edison was called. Police and firefighters stood by.
Police removed a fallen branch from Popham Road Aug. 28.
On Aug. 28, police notified the water department about pooling water on Mayflower Road.
Police asked a Post Road pedestrian to walk on the sidewalk for safety Aug. 31.
Animals
A passerby found two loose dogs at Palmer Avenue and Mamaroneck Road and notified police Aug. 30.
A “bold coyote” was described to be walking down Rock Creek Lane Aug. 30. It was gone from the scene when police arrived.
Village code
On Aug. 28, police advised kids that they were not permitted to fish in the Audrey Hochberg pond on Brewster Road.
A Harwood Court caller reported someone tossed unsecured flowerpots onto the street in front of his location Aug. 27.
Police advised landscapers using leaf blowers on Greenacres Ave. of Village code, and the landscapers stopped.
A caller complained a landscaper left items on Windmill Circle Aug. 30. Police saw a stack of items neatly placed and marked off by cones. Police said they would continue to monitor the area to see if the landscaper likely returned to collect the items.
On Sept. 1, police advised a Greenacres Ave. resident that neighbors complained of noise. The resident said his gathering was ending.
A Harvest Drive resident turned down music volume after neighbors complained Sept. 1.

A Roosevelt Place caller described losing a bicycle Aug. 26. It was described as a black and red BMX Trek bike with rusty chains.
On Aug. 26, a Post Road resident reported losing her wallet, which contained her tourist Visa.
On Aug. 28, a parking officer found a driver’s license and a debit card on East Parkway.
On Aug. 30, a Boulevard resident reported finding a “silver watch” in the Village on Aug. 23. He said he wanted to hold onto the watch and was making attempts to find the owner.
Firefighters
One firefighter sustained an injury to his hand during a training exercise Aug. 26.
Following a false alarm Aug. 26, firefighters investigated a Rock Creek Lane house under construction and observed there was no permit on file, as well as unsafe conditions. The building department was advised.
On Aug. 27, a man knocked on the door of the fire station on Tompkins Road, saying he fell outside and hit his head. Firefighters provided ice and offered medical attention, which the man declined.

Stolen: On Aug. 21, a Ridgecrest North resident reported that he daughter’s car had been broken into and $400 was stolen. Additionally, a package was stolen from the doorstep.
Identity theft and fraud
A Chateaux Circle woman reported being the victim of Identity theft Aug. 20.
On Aug. 23, a Kingston Road resident reported an unknown person opened credit cards in her name in Florida.
On Aug. 23, a Cooper Road resident reported someone stole one of her outgoing checks and “washed” it to cash it for a fraudulent amount of $22,000 to a fraudulent payee.
On Aug. 24, a Brewster Road woman reported someone had been using her Chase bank card to make five fraudulent purchases since April.
Scam
A Rural Drive woman was scammed by a person alleging to represent a “secret shopper” service Aug. 19. She said the rep had her purchase a $500 gift card and provide them with the card details including the access code. The rep then mailed her a fraudulent check to reimburse her for her commission and reimbursement. She also provided her ID to the rep.
A Mamaroneck Road woman thought she was talking to an Apple representative over an allegedly “virus-infected” computer, and she provided all of her information over the phone. She then realized she had been tricked and cancelled her credit cards and bank account numbers.
Missing person
A Christie Place man, with Alzheimer’s, reportedly left his apartment and was missing for several hours before he wife reported the incident Aug. 19.
Broken window
On Aug. 21, a Deerfield Lane HVAC worker’s car window was found to be broken while parked at the job site. No items were removed from the car. Police thought the damage was caused by a rock that had been possibly kicked up by the landscaping company.
Disorderly conduct
A man was urinating in the bushes on Palmer Ave. Aug. 23. Police spoke with him and realized the man was wanted by Eastchester police on a warrant. EPD picked him up to process his arrest.
Dispute
On Aug. 24, police mediated s dispute between a landlord and tenant on Garth Road.
Cars and roadways
On Aug. 19, police advised the Department of Public Works that a manhole cover was loose on Popham Road.
Verizon was notified about fallen wires on Post Road Aug. 19.
On Aug. 21, a refrigerator was left by the side of the road on Woods Lane. Police called the sanitation department to remove it.
Police placed caution tape and barricades around a ditch by the side of Brewster Road Aug. 22.

Police shot an injured squirrel and disposed of its remains after a caller was concerned about public health after seeing the animal running around in circles in clear distress Aug. 19.

Burglary and theft: On Aug. 5, a Tompkins Road man reported his house had been burglarized.
A Garden Road resident reported stolen property Aug. 6.
Property was stolen from a Ridgecrest East driveway Aug. 8.
Identity theft
On Aug. 9, a Crossway woman reported an incident of identity theft.
On Aug. 9, a Harwood Court business owner reported that his company mailed a check on July 25. They were notified on Aug. 1 that the check did not clear because an unknown person attempted to “wash” the check and cash it in North Carolina by altering the amount and payee information.
Domestic matters
Police mediated a dispute involving an Edgewood couple Aug. 7. They agreed to stay away from each other for the night,
On Aug. 8, the Edgewood woman reported her husband threw out her food and mail. The husband explained he threw out spoiled food and said he did not touch his wife’s mail. He left the house to run errands, and police explained the situation to the wife. Later, the Edgewood man reported his wife was “out of control” and throwing out good food because she was still mad about her spoiled food being thrown out. Police mediated the situation and explained why the food had been thrown out.
On Aug. 8., the Edgewood man reported his wife was screaming at him and pounding on his door, which prevented him from getting his work done. She had already gone to bed for a nap when police arrived. The man said he would go to the library to continue working.
A Fox Meadow couple reported a dispute with the 17-year-old son who left the house after the dispute Aug. 11. The couple said they were in the process of moving and asked their son to get off his phone to help. When police arrived, they were informed that the son simply went for a walk.
Mischief
Multiple callers reported blonde kids on bikes causing trouble and throwing rocks at businesses on Wilmot Road Aug. 5. Police arrived on scene, and the youths admitted to throwing rocks which caused significant damage to the rear door of the business. The business did not want to press charges but asked that the kids’ parents be notified. Police called the parents, who responded to the scene to pick up their kids.
Welfare check
Police checked on a 16-year-old boy who allegedly had a breakdown in another jurisdiction Aug. 6. Police confirmed the boy safely arrived home and was with his parents.
Suspicious
Someone rang a Saxon Woods Road doorbell and left Aug. 7 around 11:30 p.m.
A woman reported a self -driving car was following her Roosevelt Place Aug. 9. Police investigates and saw self-automated lawn mowers in use at the location. They were not following people, just maintaining the yard.
Police checked on a Fayette Road house after the resident received what he believed to be a scam call from someone alleging to be from Con Edison Aug. 10.
Help
A Hamilton Road resident reported her recycling bin had been stolen Aug. 6. Police located the bin down the street, displaced by a storm.
Police helped an elderly woman who said she was lost and looking for a hotel for the night Aug. 9. Police advised about several hotels in White Plains and helped the woman use her mobile GPS device Aug. 9.

A woman sleeping in her car told police she was waiting for her cleaning crew to finish working at a nearby address on Fox Meadow Road Aug. 6.
A car with scofflaw status for unpaid parking tickets was found on East Parkway Aug. 8.
A disabled car was reported on Overhill Road Aug. 8.
Patrol put up a temporary stop sign to control traffic around burning wires against a utility pole on Post Road Aug. 8.

On Aug. 8, a caller reported her dog was attacked by a pit bull and bitten at Barry and Tunstall roads. Both dogs allegedly “took off” after the bite. The pit bull was wearing purple collar and was off leash. It allegedly attacked the caller’s dog while she was walking it on leash before it broke free during the attack. Police looked for both dogs but did not find them. Patrol later went to the suspected address of the offending pit bull. She admitted her dog got out off leash. She heard about the attack but did not see it. She provided vaccination records. Police issued a summons for having a dog off leash.
A turtle reported on Popham Road Aug. 10 left the scene before police arrived.

A passerby found a key fob on East Parkway and gave it to police Aug. 5.
An Edgewood Road man reported losing his Mexican passport at home Aug. 8.
Village code
Police advised a Jefferson Road resident to trim grass away from a fire hydrant on his property Aug. 11.
After neighbors complained of noise, a Varian Lane resident lowered the volume of music.
Firefighters
On Aug. 7, firefighters were dispatched to a Shawnee Road residence for a reported water condition in the basement. Upon arrival, crews were approached by the resident who stated that the basement was filling with water. Upon investigation, crews noted approximately 2inches of water accumulated in the basement, with pressurized water free flowing from the water service connection. Firefighters attempted to locate the main valve; however, the valve prior to the meter was completely dislodged and hanging from a grounding wire Members assisted the water department with a curb valve shut down, while simultaneously initiating pump-out operations. Water flow controlled and a submersible pump and squeegees were used to mitigate the accumulated water. A power adapter was removed from its power source after a popping sound was heard. Water accumulation did not rise to the level of electrical receptacles. Firefighters advised the resident to have a receptacle in the utility closet evaluated for water exposure due to its proximity to spraying water. No tripped breakers were noted. Members placed a dehumidifier and split A/C unit into operation to assist with residual water removal. Advised the resident to contact a salvage company for further remediation.

Disorderly conduct
Cameras near a Crane Road school dumpster caught an Uber driver relieving himself August 15. He was described as wearing a dark-colored shirt, light-colored pants, and driving a white station wagon, He allegedly urinated behind a tree near a playground dumpster. The male was asked by a passerby to stop, and he left the location. According to camera footage, the man attempted to conceal himself and did not appear to be intentionally exposing himself to anyone. Police advised the director of the school to contact Uber to report the incident.
Suspicious
On August 12, a Black Birch Lane woman reported two males came to her door claiming to be with the department of labor, asking about a fraud case. She spoke to them via a front door camera and never opened the door. The men alleged she was the victim of an incident involving fraudulent unemployment claims in her name. She advised the men to leave information in order to revisit the discussion at a later time. The men left contact information and exited the location without hesitation in an orderly fashion with no further incident. Police advised her to check her accounts and to follow up with department of labor’s fraud department. The men reportedly left the scene in a gray Dodge and a silver Hyundai.
On August 16, a gray Acura entered a Brite Avenue driveway. A white woman with dark hair got out and went to the house. She stood there in front of it, using a mobile device – possibly taking photos. The matter was captured by video.

Police accompanied a Con Edison worker into a Claremont Road basement to check for a gas leak, at a homeowner’s request August 13.
A person came to headquarters saying his car had been repossessed and he needed a document in order to report the license plates were now lost August 15.

Police were called to mediate a verbal argument between a husband and wife in Edgewood August 17.

Police called a tow for a disabled car on Mamaroneck Road, and the tow operator helped refill gas into the car so the driver could continue using the car August 14.

On August 16, police helped move a disabled car to a safe location to wait for assistance on Colonial Road.

On August 14, a cat was observed on a Meadow Road patio. The caller thought the cat was injured. Patrol walked to the rear of the house, at which time the cat got up and ran away. The cat did not appear to be sick or injured.

A Lexus car key was left near a scoreboard on Mamaroneck Road Aug. 12. Police vouchered it for safekeeping.
A worker advised a laptop fell out of his truck while driving on Fox Meadow Road August 16. The worker tracked it to Valhalla. It had been turned in to Mount Pleasant police and was available for pickup.

Police Report: Burglary on Kensington Road

Burglary: A Kensington Road woman reported someone broke into her house Aug. 3. She returned home to find a rear door’s glass broken and damaged to a basement wall panel. Jewelry items were reported stolen. Police are following up.
Identity theft
On July 29, a Brite Avenue caller advised police that her data was compromised in an Internet breach. She informed the major credit reporting bureaus and froze her credit cards.
On July 29, a Fox Meadow Road woman reported that a fraudulent credit card and a fraudulent Verizon account were opened in her name. She closed both accounts.
On July 30, a Leatherstocking Lane man reported that five Citibank checks in his name had been washed and cashed. The total amount of the fraudulent checks that had been cashed was $3,639.15.The checks had been mailed out of the man’s residential mailbox before being stolen.
On Aug. 1, a Kent Road woman reported receiving an email from an identity monitoring service, stating that her Social Security number had been compromised.
Trespassing
On July 30, Scarsdale Public Library staff reported that a person not allowed to enter the building was there. Police informed him, and he left.
Help
The Arizona son of a Village resident reported he was suicidal Aug. 3 Police notified Tucson, Arizona police.
On Aug. 5, a Huntington Avenue homeowner reported returning home from a trip and observing the back door open. Doorbell footage showed a mail carrier delivering mail to the rear entrance on August 2 and returning a few moments later to retrieve the mail. The homeowner advised that this individual was not the routine mail carrier, and the mail is always delivered to the front of the residence. The homeowner also advised that he observed a white SUV parked and idling on Brite Ave, however the vehicle left the area upon his arrival. Patrol conducted a check of the interior and found all to be secure and in good order. No signs of forced entry were observed. Additionally, the homeowner conducted a check of the interior and confirmed everything to be in good order.

On July 29, police notified Con Edison about fallen wires on Morris Lane.
Police received multiple calls about an abandoned white pickup truck on Madison Road July 29. It had no license plates but registration information linked it to a business in California. Police towed it to the impound lot.
Parked cars were too closed to a stop sign on Bethel Road July 30. Police asked the drivers to move the cars.
On July 31, police cleared a fallen wire from Brewster Road and asked the highway department to clear a fallen branch.
An abandoned trailer with a flat tire and one Pennsylvania license plate was found on Freightway Road Aug. 1. It had been there for several months, according to witnesses, Police arranged for it to be towed to the impound lot.
Police advised Con Edison about a fallen wire on Paddington Road Aug. 3.

Illegally posted signs were removed from the Village right-of-way on Greenacres Avenue July 29, Fox Meadow Road and Palmer Avenue July 31, and Post Road Aug. 1 and 3. Summonses were issued when owners could be identified.
A caller reported people soliciting for money at Post and Crane roads July 31. No one was there when police arrived.
Police reminded workers on Tyler Road to not use power tools prior to 8 a.m., Aug. 1.

Animals
On Aug. 1, police picked up a loose dog from Walworth Avenue and reunited it with its owner, using information on the dog’s tag.
A Brewster Road man reported a lost dog Aug. 3. Police helped look for the dog, but no one found it while police were there.

A passerby found a wallet in the Village and brought it to headquarters for safekeeping July 29.
Firefighters
On July 30, firefighters were dispatched to an Innes Road house for an inside investigation of an odor of sewage in the basement. Crews determined that the basement sump pump was pumping brown odorous water into the slop sink and running intermittently. The resident stated that the sump pump typically only runs during rain storms. Per resident, the pump typically ejects to dry well but was diverted to the sink due to a compromised dry well. The resident confirmed that the water ejected matched the odor of the original complaint. The resident closed the valve to isolate the discharge to sink. Firefighters advised the resident to have the integrity of the waste stack evaluated by a plumber. Waste from the home may be entering a curtain drain and entering the sump pit. There were negative readings of combustible gases, carbon monoxide, or hydrogen sulfide.
On Aug. 31, firefighters ventilated a Secor Road house and stood by for Con Edison due to elevated levels of carbon monoxide coming from a hot water heater.
A gas odor on Depot Place was traced to a leaking stove valve in a Popham Road restaurant’s kitchen that shares a hallway with a Depot Place building. Firefighters shut gas valves at equipment and started mechanical ventilation. Heavy cooking grease was observed on the hood system, as well as electric rice cookers being powered up by extension cords as while the establishment unoccupied. Building department representatives were requested on scene to document the violations. Con Edison locked out the gas meter due to numerous violations.

Water from a clogged HVAC drain was leaking into a smoke detector in a Stonehouse Road house Aug. 3. Firefighters removed the smoke detector and advised the resident to service the system.
Water from sewage backup leaked into a gas detector in a Colvin Road gas detector Aug. 3. Firefighters assisted with immediate mediation and advised residents to contact a plumber.
Wires were sparking on Sprague Road Aug. 3. Con Edison was notified. Firefighters stood by until the burning subsided.
Firefighters helped a Catherine Road resident get back in the house after an accidental lockout Aug. 4.
